Carnival Cruise Ship Air Conditioning Issues Lead to Refunds

carnival cruise ship air conditioning

One passenger of the July 24 cruise received her refund after Insider reported on the persistent air problems she experienced. Cruise Hive was established back in 2008 and among the earliest blogs in the industry. Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines. We make sure cruisers are fully prepared for their cruise vacation with tips on ships and ports.Millions of travelers rely on Cruise Hive in the United States, Europe, Australia, and around the world.

Hotdog 52

I can remember past cruises were I felt like I froze all week, which I'd much rather be too cool than be hot! I still LOVED the cruise, ANY cruise is better than work, but it made me not very happy with the Magic. They will let you borrow a fan for your cabin though, so that does help some. In this post, we will explore whether cruise ships have air conditioning. I’ve been on 60 cruises to date and have put together this guide to air conditioning in the public spaces and cabins.

Cooling Issue Prompts Refund for Some Carnival Cruise Guests

If they could shut the doors or if they had an airlock it might help. I was way too freaked out over the lack of mask enforcement. This blog helps over a million people to plan their cruises each month. The cruise line has announced that the ship has been suffering from excessive temperatures well above the expected levels, which the system hasn’t been able to cope with.

Do Cruise Ships Have Air Conditioning in Public Spaces?

It is advisable to adjust the room temperature separately from the chiller unit since doing so will result in greater plant efficiency and shorter response times. This guarantees that the temperature of the chilled water that emerges from the chiller remains stable at all times. Therefore, the heat may be conveniently expelled by directing the hot gas via the condenser heat exchanger. An internal blade in the condenser facilitates this process. Gas is transformed into liquid and an expansion valve is installed at the condenser’s output during the heat ejection phase. In the terminal the door is big and open the whole time so really no way to capture the cool air completely.

Cruise News Recap: Carnival Tampering, Dining Changes, Evacuation

Some cabins had around 3-4 feet of flooding with water pouring from the ceilings. We were on the Harmony of the Seas in 2018 and found the public spaces and cabins quite warm. It was so stuffy in the dining room we asked the staff to move us. Thankfully they were able to put us at a table near the entrance with good air flow.

The Biggest Cruise Ships in the World

The temperature on board the ship is inversely proportional to the temperature outside. To regulate the flow of hot water, a sensor measures the current temperature and transmits that information to a PLC, which then compares the data to a predetermined threshold value. After that, the temperature of the air is changed to meet the needs of the situation.

We did run the boost because my husband likes to be really cool and while I wouldn't call it Antarctica, it was cool enough for him. As others have noted I don't remember ever needing a sweater or jacket in public rooms and I was mostly wearing lightweight garb. Have the public spaces and cabins on Mardi Gras been hot or cool? Obviously it is August, so I don’t expect it to feel like walk in freezer.

Jones added that after complaining while aboard the ship, she was told to call the corporate customer-service phone number. She said when she got home and called, she was told there was nothing the representative could do because she'd already gotten off the ship. "A representative couldn't handle my concerns," the passenger said. "The reply email I received said that I could expect an email reply upwards of 45 days from now."

Some staterooms and public venues around the cruise ship were over 80 degrees during the five-night cruise. I have seen and answered many questions and concerns about the air conditioning on board some of our vessels. Extreme heat and record-setting ocean temperatures have placed added stress on our air conditioning system which is affecting the temperature in some areas of some of our ships. I promise that our engineering teams and shoreside beads are doing all they can to rectify this. Carnival brought onboard techs to troubleshoot and repair the cooling systems, and by the end of the cruise, the engineers were able to lower the temperature around the ship. The cruise line cited ‘extreme heat and recording setting ocean temperatures’ as the culprit.

Use of air conditioning will be implemented in all public areas. Because cruise ships typically do not have any windows that operate on any decks apart from the upper decks, the temperature aboard can only be adjusted by the ship’s air conditioning system. Just to add an interior cabin experience to the mix, we got off yesterday and thought the cabin was well cooled. Never needed the boost setting and rarely set it to the coldest setting. For us, interior spaces around the ship were cool but not freezing.

It’s possible that the reason your air conditioner isn’t functioning in your balcony cabin is that the door to your balcony cabin is open. If this is the case, you should check to see if you can close it. When the cabin door is opened on several cruise ships, the air conditioning in the room really goes off.

As the Carnival Sunrise sailed to Grand Cayman and Jamaica at the end of July, the outside temperature reached over 90 degrees. Inside, vacationers reported their cabins were uncomfortably, even dangerously, warm because of broken air conditioning — with some saying their rooms hovered above 80. Guests on board were quick to post on social media to point out just how many of the ship's passengers were impacted, sharing pictures of long lines to speak to guest services.

I know it defeats the purpose, but with the AC off with direct sun i found it almost impossible for the AC to get the temperature back down by itself. We were on the April 30th cruise had three staterooms, balconies forward of the ship, took a thermometer and it never went down lower than 73 and that usually was around 5-8am only. I have to say it averaged 75 in all cabins and too warm for us we complained and fans were given to us but it was still warm for us, didn't sweat but got no quality sleep. That’s why the cruise ship air conditioners are a little different when compared with regular AC. This is, in essence, the operation of the air conditioning plant of a cruise ship.

Ocean temperatures this week appeared to break new records with sea water reaching 98 degrees Fahrenheit in South Florida. Medical notes from King's pulmonologist that Insider reviewed indicate she had an "acute attack" while at sea and was still having problems with her breathing four days later. The physician's notes, taken two days after she returned home, mention the lack of air conditioning on the ship was likely a contributing factor to the severity of the attack. First, cabins on that ship will have a slot for your card to keep lights and AC on. You don't have to use your S&S card any card will do even a business card. I left one of my Business cards in the slot the entire time.

If was a hot week, but indoors the only times we were warm/hot was in the terminal waiting in line and waiting on deck six to disembark, not sure why that was so stuffy but it was. Amazingly the first record of air conditioning on cruise ships is back in the 1930s! The SS Victoria had air-conditioned dining rooms and some of the more expensive cabins were also air-conditioned.

Additionally, Hele Hele Shuttle partners with Disney to offer transfers between Disney’s Aulani Resort and the Honolulu Airport for $25 per person. I always make a point to stop in at the various shops near the family beach to see the Castaway Cay merchandise. On a recent trip, the shops had everything from spirit jerseys and T-shirts to Christmas ornaments and swimsuits. The best part about seeing the characters is that the lines to take pictures with them are never long.

Disney Aulani also tends to run more published seasonal sales where you can sometimes snag a lower nightly room price if you are very flexible. Opt for a tropical vacation with a Caribbean or Mexican Riviera itinerary. Or you can explore culture and history in Europe or experience outdoor adventure in Alaska.

As evidence, the estimated cost of a taxi ride from YVR to the Disney Canada Place Cruise Terminal is $45.35 (excluding tips). Operated by Indigo Park Canada, this covered parking facility caters to the needs of cruise line passengers, including those on Disney Cruise Line. With 770 parking spaces, it’s open 24/7 and provides the best parking experience in the area in terms of convenience and reliability. The Cruise Ship Terminal at Canada Place is conveniently located 12 miles away from Vancouver International Airport and offers seamless access to the city’s many attractions and amenities. With multiple transportation options available, it serves as an optimal departure point for embarking on a Disney cruise to Hawaii (or disembarking).

When it opened on May 28, 1994, this was a resort hotel without any DVC rooms, but a separate DVC building was constructed and called The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. This DVC wing opened to guests on November 15, 2000, and is themed to lodgings built by railroad workers in the west in the late 1800s. This building has 136 villas, comprising studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units.

During one-way Hawaiian cruises, Disney Cruise Line either departs or arrives at Honolulu Harbor (aka the Port of Honolulu). Located on the southern coast of Oahu Island, Honolulu is Hawaii’s largest seaport and capital city. The Disney Wonder offers a range of staterooms to cater to different needs, preferences, and budgets. These include the Inside, Outside, Verandah, and Concierge stateroom categories. For a detailed understanding of the various options, check out our comprehensive guide on the Best Staterooms on a Disney Cruise.

This makes getting around the island with all of my beach gear easy. Castaway Cay is about 1,000 acres — though not all of it's developed — so it can take a while to talk to and from the ship to different spots on the island. One of the biggest perks of Castaway Cay is that the ship docks right at the island. We have enjoyed our times immensely at each and plan to return to both.

Believe it or not, this is a reasonable Hawaii food budget if you plan to eat out most dinners but also plan to get some groceries or grab and go food at other times. All the DCL ships also have a nursery aboard in addition to the kids clubs. The nursery takes kids from 6 months old through age 3 (note that 3 year olds can do either the Oceaneer Club & Lab or the nursery). At $9 per hour, this childcare option isn’t free, but it’s a good value for what it offers.

The numerous options make a DCL trip even more of a destination-focused vacation that just happens to have magical Disney touches. One of the reasons many vacationers choose an Aulani or Disney Cruise Line vacation is that they offer so much more than Disney travel. They come with tried and true Disney service and amenities that families can trust to meet their travel needs. If your ship is diverted to a new port due to weather, you might not be able to get off. It’s also risky to travel internationally without a standard passport in the case of a medical or family emergency.

Whatever you decide between Aulani or Disney Cruise Line, I’m fairly confident you will experience a memorable family vacation. And of course, you also have to consider airfare costs and other add-ons your family might want to experience when making the full cost comparison. As of 2023, Disney has added Hawaii to its cruising schedule, but only in a very limited fashion. One ship, the Disney Wonder, stops in Hawaii as it repositions from its summer Alaska itineraries down to Australia in the fall (and then as it returns to the West Coast in spring 2024). You and/or your kids may be able to make do with a passport card (only $65) or ID and birth certificate if you are taking a closed loop cruise to many Caribbean countries, Canada or Mexico. That said, Aulani would still work well for teens on a vacation with extended family and friends and built-in socialization.

Personal Navigators, and other details from the  10-Night Hawaiian Cruise from Vancouver ending in Honolulu. The Disney Wonder set sail from Vancouver, Canada on October 3, 2023. During this cruise, the ship was under the control of Captain Thord Haugen. As someone who has been lucky to travel internationally since I was a child, I sometimes forget that most Americans don’t have passports! At $130 per adult and $100 per child in 2023 (+ a $35 acceptance fees for new applicants), they are a big cost that can really add to a trip’s budget. We are encountering just this very challenge as we plan for our Thanksgiving travels.

Cessna 182 Performance Information

cessna 182 cruise speed

In 2001, I added 23 gallons to the existing long-range tanks with Flint Aero fuel tanks, bringing my total fuel onboard to 98 gallons. I also added flap gap seals from Knots 2U, which gave me about three additional knots at cruise. The gear adds a lot to the utility of the airplane, even in this low-speed category. We typically fly at 150 knots TAS on 12 GPH at 6000 to 8000 feet. All of the engines installed in all Cessna 182 models are approved for continuous full power operations. There are no engine operating limitations except for temperature and pressure limits.

Empty Weight

The newest 182 cockpits are integrated with Garmin G1000 NXi avionics for a really up-to-date graphical interface. The glass cockpit can be intimidating for someone more accustomed to a six-pack but once you adjust, it is truly luxurious, in my opinion. There are two matrix LCDs for all of your flight, engine, and sensor data. The hardware is stronger than previous Garmin avionics and has additional features that improve situational awareness for pilots during flight. Initially, it can be easy to get lost in the new age of digital readings, so pilots that are unfamiliar may want to take some time to get to know the cockpit before takeoff.

How Much Fuel Does A Cessna 182 Burn Per Hour

This speed is ideal for general aviation activities, from training flights to leisurely cross-country journeys. The 172’s cruise speed ensures that pilots can reach their ultimate destinations on time while benefiting from the aircraft’s fuel efficiency. In this article, we’ll delve deep into the specifics of the Cessna 172 versus 182, comparing their cruise speeds, cabin sizes, and other vital features. By the end, you’ll have a clear understanding of what sets these two iconic planes apart and which might be the right fit for your aviation journey. For many pilots, both novice and experienced, the choice of aircraft often boils down to specific models that best fit their needs. Among Cessna’s vast fleet, the Cessna 172 and 182 stand out as two of the most popular and widely recognized models.

Payload with full fuel

This has led to stall speeds remaining the same across the board – 54 KCAS when clean and 49 KCAS when configured for landing. The 182 is used by a multitude of civil operators, cadet organizations, and flight schools worldwide. Cessna 172 Skyhawk – The Cessna 172 is designed with practicality and efficiency in mind.

Both planes are commonly used for pilot training, but if you ask around, you’ll find that the consensus is in favor of the 182. While the 172 can be cheaper, the Skylane is an obvious choice for comfort, power, and performance. It is bigger (though only slightly), faster, and stronger than the Skyhawk with more avionics options as well. Cessna is known for their high-quality aircraft and neither the Skyhawk or Skylane are an exception to that rule. The 1956 Cessna 182 had a gross weight of 2,550 pounds, had a useful load of 1,000 pounds, and fuel capacity of 55 gallons. They delivered a 135-knot cruise speed and 1,200-foot per minute climb thanks to its Continental O-470-L engine.

Today’s basic Skylane includes a list of accoutrements the old Skylane could only dream of. Automotive-style airbags were out of the question because of weight, airframe, and certification considerations, so Cessna contracted with AmSafe to create a simpler, but similarly effective, method of restraint. We are both A&P mechanics and have done all the airframe maintenance including most of the work on the annuals alongside the AI. Shimmy damper problems have plagued the RG but do not stand out in the most recent SDRs. A Cessna service bulletin (80-67) was aimed at correcting the problem with a mod kit and it appears to have been successful.

The 182 has a lot of history, with its roots dating back to the mid-1940s and almost two dozen iterations. However, despite its success, not all Cessna 182s are created equal. In just a moment, were going to take a deep dive into the history and specs of the Cessna 182 series, including model differences and performance specs. Theres so much here that I have to break this down into two parts. So, in part 2, which will air in February, well get into ownership and maintenance costs, current pricing and inventory, and more to give you a complete Cessna 182 Buyers Guide. The Skylane RG was introduced in 1978 to almost unanimous rave reviews from both the aviation press and, more importantly, the flying/buying public.

“I use the airplane probably 90 percent for business, 10 percent for family transport, and it’s ideal for operation in the mountains. Once you’re trained in the use of the G1000 in the Skylane, the combination of gentle handling and simple, straightforward avionics makes IFR flying almost intuitive,” Bastien explains. An STEC 55 autopilot coupled to a Garmin GNS430 GPS makes a nice IFR platform.

This often makes it possible to carry 4 adults as passengers with the 182 platform versus the 172. The Cessna 182 is based on the 172 however the most attractive appeal is that it comes in a much larger size variant. The 182 comes in with a length of 29 ft (8.84 m) and a height of 9 ft 4 in (2.84 m). The wingspan is 36 ft (10.97 m) which is the same as the Cessna 172. On each strut, there are foot mounts for easy access enabling pilots to refuel with ease. However, there are many others that still sport a steam gauge configuration.

Cessna executives knew what worked when it came to the Skyhawk and made it bigger and better in the Skylane. That being said, finding a cheap 182 is both a challenge and a risk. If someone is selling a Skylane for less than $100,000 be wary; it’s likely to have some problems that will require additional investments before it’s flight ready. Even older models can trend above 100K, while newer ones like the 182T can run up to half a million dollars with ease, offsetting its accessibility in flight with inaccessibility in cost. It is a popular club plane though, which can tamp down some of the financial burdens by spreading it among members.

Both the 172 and 182 make excellent first planes, but if you were to ask most pilots, they would agree that the 182 is the better choice. If you fly regularly with a skittish non-pilot, these can be a valuable option. The engine was replaced with a factory overhauled engine in 1997. We have over 1000 hours on the engine and have had success with it except for a stuck valve at around 400 hours. It was after returning from Phoenix in 112-degree weather, so that may have been a factor.

Cessna 182 Skylane – The Cessna 182 takes cabin comfort and space to the next level. Also designed to seat four passengers, the Skylane’s cabin is noticeably more spacious, providing added legroom, headroom, and overall comfort. AOPA offers an amazing aircraft loan calculator that should give you an idea of where you stand.

The two biggest names in aviation tech now each offer amazing EFB options. Either you are a new pilot or an experienced pilot who has been flying with both for the longest while. In terms of landing characteristics, the two aircraft are very similar, with their landing and take-off lengths only being (at most) a 50 ft-100 ft difference. Even though this may seem small this can be the difference of landing or a detour. To answer these questions, we have to understand the characteristics of each aircraft, so lets start the comparison.
