For the purposes of this document, a licensed program is required to have permission from the State to operate and must meet specified family child care standards. Some States may call their regulatory processes certification or registration; the term licensed is used to represent all regulatory processes. Tips for running a successful in-home daycare!
Most states allow some child care providers to be exempt from child care licensing laws. Often these providers are relatives of the children they care for, care for a very small number of children, or operate only a few hours a day. Your state licensing agencycan provide information about which types of providers are exempt from licensing in your state.
Or if you are only watching children for, say two to five hours a day, then you may be exempt. Due to it not being a “full shift” or eight-hour day of watching children the state may not view it the same way. Public School Programs
If you are wanting to grow your childcare business and increase the number of children you watch, hiring additional help will be the best and easiest option to consider. When you are first starting your business, it is common for daycare owners to start in a home setting while their budget is low. We have seen childcare businesses still become very profitable while being held in the owner’s home. For the ages between 2 and 5 years old, we recommend not leaving one adult with more than 5 children.
Some states will list their requirements on a website, but this is not true for all states. States without records available on the web can give you this information over the phone or at the agency office. When visiting a family child care provider, ask to see a copy of the program’s license, registration or certification, and inspection history.
